“I can’t believe you just gave birth to our beautiful son.” He said.
“I know right! Gosh, I can hardly believe it too.”
Our son started crying-again, and I just wanted to curl up into a ball. I didn’t know how hard this would be, and I was still uncomfortable from giving birth.
“Honey,” Mitch said, “I got it. Ok?”
I nodded. How did I get so lucky?
He went to help the baby, and I laid down. I was so tired, I tried to sleep last night but neither of us got any sleep, Jonathan kept us up all night. Eventually, I went to go take a bath to try to get more comfortable.
“Hey little dude.” Mitchell cooed. “You know how much your mommy and I love you? A whole lot, Johnny, that’s how much. We know we don’t have a lot, but we’re gonna do our best.”
“I love you.” I told him, when he was walking into the room.
He picked up my hands. “Baby, I love you so much. You will be a great mom.”
I have no idea how he always knows what’s bothering me, and knows what to say.
“Mitch…” I started.
“Shh.” He put his hand over my mouth. “You will be amazing. Let’s go sit down.”
“I don’t know. I never had parents to show me what to do…” I confessed how I felt, “so how could I know what to do?”
“We’ll learn, together.” He reassured me. “Now, lighten up!”
He tickled me softly, laughing.
I don’t know what I would do without him. He keeps me grounded.
