Chapter 1.15: Surprise!

Now that he was a toddler, we were talking about the possibility of having another kid. We both agreed that they shouldn’t be too far apart in age. I went off birth control to see if it would happen without really trying. Just a few months after Jonathan’s birthday, we were already learning that he was a smart kid. He was always playing with the nesting blocks or running around. However, toddlers are… let’s say… a challenge. I swear he was always making a mess. Throwing food, splashing in the toilet, you name it, he did it. At least, after all that, he was tired and we had some peace and quiet. Mitch and I were so tired after chasing Jonathan around all day, and I wasn’t feeling the best.

“Quiet.” He whispered.

I sighed. “Quiet. I can actually hear myself think.”

“He is full of energy.”

“Too much energy.” I agreed.

“Toddlers are so much work. So, how are you?”

“I’m-I’m…” I groaned. I hadn’t been feeling well all day. “I feel sick.” I gasped and bolted out of the room. I heard him following me all the way to the bathroom where I finally threw up.

“Told you?” I got out, cringing.

“Nadia, honey, get some sleep.”

The next day, I woke up to the wailing sound of our son. I’d gotten somewhat used to it. After finally getting him happy with a bowl of applesauce, I pulled over Mitch to tell him something. I was quite sure I started rambling. There was no easy way to say this…

“Nadia, slow down. What are you saying?”

“I’m pregnant!” The last time that I’d felt so sick, I had been pregnant with our now-toddler.

“Really? Wow! Umm… wow!” He smiled. “That was fast.”

“Yeah. Guess Jonathan will be getting a sibling after all.” Neither of us were sure what to expect when we started ‘trying’ for our second child. We didn’t know how soon it would happen, of if we’d actually need to plan for me to get pregnant.

“Wonder what he’ll think about that.”

We sat back down, just thinking about everything-and I mean everything-that’s happened so fast.

We met. We started dating. We got engaged. We got married, right after. I got pregnant with Jonathan. And here we are, and I am pregnant with our second child. Funny how life works out.

Then I remembered something important. “Where will the baby sleep!?” I asked.

“Well, Johnny and the baby can share our bigger room and we can move our bed into Jonathan’s current room.”

“You are a genius!” I exclaimed. Yes, everything will work out.

  2. Come on, Selena!

I also end up doing matriarchies with normal legacies so maybe I’m a bit biased lol

    1. Yeah, I did a matriarchy because I’m a girl, so it’s easier to get in their heads if they’re girls too 😛

      1. Very true! I also find them a bit more fun to dress-up 😛 Though I admit, Cedric stole my heart in Rose Garden. He’s getting dangerously close to passing on and I am going to weep 😭

      2. Lol, true, definitely easier. I switch up for mine. So I started with a girl and then every other generation I write as a boy. It’s nice having some challenge and diversity.

      3. Yeah, that’s cool! I just don’t feel comfortable writing from a boy’s viewpoint, but that’s just me! 😄

      4. Oh, I don’t find it that much different, actually. I’ve written from so many POV’s so far with all the bonuses and such…

      1. I am, thank you!! You’ve got a sweet little family so far, I can’t wait to see it grow! ❤

      2. Thank you! There’s more drama in the later generations (and my writing gets better too 🙂)

  4. I have to lock the bathroom door(s) until they age up otherwise they make a huge mess.

    1. Heh, that’s a good idea! Thank you for all the comments, I really love hearing for my readers! I’m at school right now, so that’s why I haven’t replied much! 🙂

  5. So um, this feels so much like my sister’s life. Lol. Although the order is a little off – get engaged, get pregnant, get married. All a bit faster than they wanted. Can’t wait to meet the next child and seeing John be a big brother.

  6. All happens so fast! But who has the time. Let’s just get the nooboos and there comes everything else!

    1. Yeah, it’s totally the opposite in generation three, it’s at almost 50 chapters and she still doesn’t have kids (but we’re getting there) 😂

      1. I always have 22 chapters + prologue and epilogue. And a couple bonuses, which are not from the heir’s POV. So I always plan the gen around those set 22 chapters.

      2. That’s actually a really nice idea! It would help a lot for a story that’s planned 😄 I just make up the story as I go along right now lol 🤣 I had, what, 25 chapters in gen 1, around 50 for gen two, and currently almost 50 for gen three but there’s still a lot left! At this rate, I’m going to have a generation that has 100 chapters at some point 😱

      3. Sometimes my heirs have kids really late and I have to cut down on their childhood to keep up the 22 chapters habit. So I often feel sad about not delving into their personalities enough when they were younger.

    1. Yeah, it’s generation one, everything goes fast 😂
