“Bro!” I practically screamed, “don’t we have like an unsaid rule that we won’t wake each other up if they manage to sleep?!”
“You can be sure that I’m waking you up next time you sleep, so you better pray to The Watcher!”
“Selena! You want to be woken up for this. Yumiko found Mom in her room…”
“Jonathan…. Is she….”
Mom. Mom’s dead. I kinda just thought she’d go on living forever… I mean we knew she was ready to die… she was younger than dad but not that much.
I wish I’d told her about Ramon. I wish I told her what had happened. It was hard to see her body lying there on the floor like that. Jonathan never told me what it was like to see our dad die, only that he was glad I didn’t have to see it. I know why now. Knowing someone you love is dead, looking at their tombstone, is different from actually seeing them dead. To see this person once full of life, dead. Unmoving, unbreathing. When you look at them you see the person they were, but you also know that you’ll never talk to them again, you’ll never laugh, live, never see them smile. She was my mother.
Miraculously, the Grim Reaper heard my pleas and let Mom live! It was amazing. We still have no idea how many days she has left, hopefully he’ll give her at least a few more weeks, so she can see Kiara and Emmett’s birthday, but that’s a long stretch.
“He said that he’d let her live!” I whispered back to my brother.
“Oh my Watcher…”
I think we all did things with a little more importance that night. I know that I realized just how short life is, in a way. Jonathan put the twins to bed, and came to help Mom and I.
We were tending the garden, still our big source of simoleons. Spraying for bugs was the most annoying. Water the plants? Easy and simple…even though you have to run and get some more water a few times, especially for the trees, those things take a whole bucket each! But those bugs… I swear they hate us. It seems like even after you spray for them, they’re back the next day! It takes forever to almost douse the plant with the stuff too! I turned around to spray the next plant when I saw Mom collapse.
“Mom!” I yelled. Jonathan ran over, dropping the water bucket.
“Hey, Mom. It’s gonna be ok.” He whispered.
I knew it wasn’t going to be ok. I know he did too. “Mom. I love you. You’re going to go meet Dad again, ok?”
“I love you guys.” She got out, before closing her eyes.
I stared at Jonathan, and he stared back at me. We all thought she’d have more time! After all, the Grim Reaper had come already today! Then he showed-or more poofed-up.
“Hey, mister!” I yelled, “what are you doing? You said she could have more time!”
“Well, I did, didn’t I. But you see, my boss, she wasn’t too happy about that. She’s been waiting a long time to see your mother. So she almost fired me, but, here I am, and I’m not getting fired so say bye bye.”
“Hey, you’ll see her again! Now move.”
So he left us there with a tombstone to cry. The first thing we did was release her spirit so she could be with Dad like she wanted. Then we finished spraying the garden.
It was Mom’s thing, the garden. She was the best at gardening. I guess we’ll get better at it, but… I don’t know. It’ll always remind me of her.
A/N: Well guys, our founder is gone…her ‘life bar’ was sparkling for a while but I don’t think we’re ever ready for our sims to die. At this point in time I had not realized the tab key existed *sigh* the great and wonderful tab key… I believe I learn about it about 5 more chapters. 😃
