I didn’t come home from school much later than Lexie, I just watered the plants before going inside. But I found Lexie crying at the computer. What happened now? Watcher, I wouldn’t want to be her. She never seemed to be happy.
She noticed me and looked up. “Hey. Uh, my room?” I nodded. At least she was open to talking. “Addie… I asked him out…”
“And…” I almost didn’t want to hear the answer.
“He said he didn’t like me, and he also said ‘I dress like a mom’.”
“Watcher, Lexie! I’m going to destroy him!” I knew how much she liked him.
“What about you?”
I sighed. School wasn’t perfect for me either. Apparently since I was pretty, I couldn’t be smart. “It doesn’t matter, Lexie. Nothing’s as bad as what you’re going through.” That dirtbag. Lexie deserved to be treated like a queen.
She started crying again. “I’m worthless, Addie. I can’t-I can’t even control my emotions.”
I didn’t know how to react. My teenage sister was having an emotional breakdown, and I didn’t know what to do. “Lexie, you aren’t worthless. Nobody’s perfect!”
She didn’t look at me. “Yeah, sure, but everyone’s closer to perfect than me.”
“That’s not true. It’s gonna be ok.”
“I see the way you and mama look at me when I can’t keep it in, ok? I’m not like you guys. I can’t just hold it in, I can’t.”
“I’m sorry, Lexie.”
“I’ve been hearing that a lot.”
