I was sitting down, waiting for Lexie. We walked home from school together and she was just going to get some pretzels.
“Hey.” I looked up to see a girl I vaguely knew from school.
She sat down next to me on the wooden bench. “I’m Lucinda. You’re Adelaide, right?”
“Yeah, that’s me.” I stared at her, confused. “Why?”
She suddenly blurted out, “You’re really pretty!” I eyed her, surprised. “Uhm…I didn’t mean to say that! But you are pretty.”
“Thank you.” I wasn’t sure what to say right now.
“I meant to ask you if you wanted to go on a date.” Lucinda finally admitted.
“A date? Like a date-date?”
“Yeah, a date. Uhm…romantically.”
Watcher. A real date. She was nice…and I wouldn’t mind getting to know her better. But this would mean coming out. But before I had a chance to really think, I heard myself saying, “Yes.”
“Ok then.” Lucinda smiled. “Here’s my number. I’ll text you, ok?”
“Yeah.” I watched her walk away, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Addie?” I looked up to see my sister. “I’m ready to go.”
“Ok, let’s go.” I thought about my date the whole walk home. How could I not?
