“How did your date go?” I asked.
“Oh, just like all the other ones.” Lexie said.
I rolled my eyes. “You mean ‘there wasn’t anything there‘ again?”
“What? I’m just saying…you need to know the person before making a yes or no decision!”
“Whatever. How did the protest go?”
Oh, I saw that changing the conversation thing. But first, I decided to tell her about it. “It was great, in fact a few other people joined us!”
“That’s great! So you think it’ll get noticed?”
“Hopefully!” These last few years I’d been working on getting myself out there before running for office, or anything. “Now, back to your dating. You can’t change the convo so easily!”
“Aww!” Lexie exclaimed, then waggled her eyebrows. “What about yours? Still hung up on Luce?”
“Heck to the no! I told you before, we ended on good terms!”
“And you still text her!”
“As friends, geez!”
“If you don’t date a nice girl soon, I am going to set you up with someone!”
I smirked. “Uh huh. And how many nice gay girls do you know?”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought! And don’t even think about doing online dating for me!”
“Cause you are perfect proof it doesn’t work! How many so-called nice guys have you met on there?”
She sighed, and looked up silently.
“Exactly! If I meet someone, I’m going to meet them! Naturally.”
“It’s the 26th century, Adelaide! We’re not in the old days where phones didn’t exist! God, they’ve been around for freaking centuries now. There are things like online dating that work pretty well! In fact, the one I’m using has been around since 2316 and they have a 83% success rate.”
“That’s great, but I’m not doing it.” I sighed, and eyed her. I didn’t exactly want to say what was about to come out of my mouth next, but I knew if I didn’t say it, nobody would. “Lexie…have you heard from Mason?”
Her head, which had been staring at her fingers, suddenly snapped up. “I thought it was an unspoken rule we didn’t talk about him! And…NO!”
“Lexie. He still exists.”
“But not in our lives. Talk to me about anything except him. Anything. God, if you want to go into freaking detail of the last time you had sex, I’d even listen to that!”
Oh. Wow. That’s not exactly what I expected… but then again, what did I expect? “Ok, well I’m not doing that.”
“Thank Watcher, cause I really didn’t want to hear that!” She smiled.
“Figured.” I smiled. “So, see you in a month?”
That made her grin. “Actually, I’m moving back in! I’m just packing up my stuff, now I only need an empty room!”
“There’s one waiting for you! The house looks a little different then when you were there last, but yeah! When do you think you’re moving, because I can help, my job is flexible!”
“I’m thinking next week, actually.”
A/N: This chapter was practically all dialogue, but if you haven’t noticed, I get really into dialogue! I hope you guys are ok with that! 😄
