I finally finished getting the house ready for Lexie to move in, aka, taking all her old stuff out of her room. She was supposed to be coming today. I looked out the window, wondering if there was enough time to take a quick walk outside before my sister arrived. I quickly pulled out my phone to text her. Going out, be back before you get here. I laughed at her almost-immediate reply. Suuure. Besides, I have a key. Not like she’s ever used it. I left my phone in my room, and walked out. I’d always thought being outside (usually running) was relaxing. I’d hardly seen anyone else outside when I ran, though, which was why I was surprised to see someone just standing by the ocean.
“Hey,” I asked, “is everything ok?”
She turned around, smiling. “Yeah, just admiring the ocean. I just moved here. The outdoor scenery is very different!”
“Well, I could always show you around if you’d like.” I said. “My name’s Adelaide.”
“Mine’s Danielle, but you can call me Dani…with an i.”
“Nice meeting you, Dani. You can call me Addie, with an i-e.” I smiled, laughing a little. “So, why’d you move? Work?”
“You could say that.” Dani said. “I’m just really grateful for this-a new start. Some…things happened where I used to live. I never thought I’d get this chance.”
Dani and I talked for seemingly forever. We just had so much in common! She’d been to Granite Falls a couple times and we really connected talking about the environment. She loves the outdoors way more than I do, though! I’ve never connected with a person so fast, or so easily.
I was about to invite her over when my phone went off.
“Oh Watcher, Dani, I’m sorry!” I’d looked at the screen for a split second and saw Lexie’s face. I had totally forgotten that she was coming. “My sister’s moving in today, but do you want to come over some other time?”
“Yeah, definitely. See you around!”
I ran the ~1.5 miles back home, and in that time, it seemed the sky had considerably darkened, on top of some rain clouds. Lexie was waiting with a small bag and a few boxes.
“Where have you been?”
“I was just talking to someone. They just moved here.”
She gave me *that* look, which I happily ignored. “So,” I said, “is this everything?”
“Yep! The house looks…bigger?”
“A little. I added onto the kitchen, working on the living room next!”
Lexie nodded. “Ok, so also, I have a job. As a cook…’s assistant. Weeelll, more like the assistant to the assistant…”
“That’s great! How long have you had it?”
“A few months. Things are going really well though.” Lexie said. “Let’s get my stuff in, shall we?”
A/N: This is my 100th post! 🙂 Can’t wait for a hundred more! And yes, Dani is Danica Lovelace from the Lovelace Legacy for anybody that reads it! (Start reading it here, it’s really good!) This is her new start! I just changed her name a *little* for the story because I felt like she’d want part of her old life. Also, I realized I’ve never shown you guys the house before, so here it is! 🙂
