Chapter 3.42: Everlasting Love

“Dani,” I started, and I watched her turn around, her beautiful emerald green eyes widening as she saw me down on one knee, realizing what was happening. I couldn’t wait to begin the next part of our lives and I could only hope she felt the same way. “I love you, and I never want to be without you…”

“I’ll never forget the day I met you, walking by the beach. I never thought I could connect with someone so quickly, but I felt like I’d known you forever. I remember wishing you were mine, hoping that one day you would love me too. Before I met you… I didn’t think there was a ‘The One’, someone who was endlessly perfect for you. I figured there were many people out there that you could have a happy life with. But I was wrong. You are my fairytale ending. You’re it for me, Dani. I couldn’t feel anything close to what I feel with you with any other woman out there. When you first kissed me, I was shocked. It was all I could’ve dreamed of. Having you as my girlfriend was more amazing than I could have imagined. But then, when I was working at the RGWI so much, I blew it. I couldn’t do it anymore, and neither could you. It was the worst time of my life. I thought I lost you. I’m grateful every single day that you gave this another chance, that you gave me another chance. I’m always going to be there for you. You’re my everything, and I can’t imagine a life without you. I don’t know what the future holds, but I don’t care as long as you’re with me. I’ve loved you every since I met you, and I want to begin this next chapter of our lives together. I want to raise a family with you and stay by your side forever. Danielle Evelyn Reed, will you make me the happiest woman alive and be my wife?

“Yes,” I heard her say softly.

“Yeah?” I asked, happier than I ever thought I could be.

Yes! Adelaide, we’re getting married!

We’re getting married. Oh my Watcher, she said yes.

That night…

It was our last night here in Granite Falls. We’d been here for five days now, in this cabin. Dani loves it here. Gosh, I still can’t believe this wonderful woman is going to be my wife. I could have never imagined all that time ago that we’d be dating, let alone engaged. Tears welled up in my eyes thinking about how lucky I am to be here, for all the things that had to have gone right for this moment to happen.

“Hey, you okay?”

“Yeah,” I said, looking over at my fiancée. “everything’s perfect.”

“I love you,” she whispered softly into my ear.

I looked over at her, her face only a few inches from mine. She pressed her lips atop mine, and that was all it took for this to turn into a full on make-out session. I wrapped my hands across her body until I got to a point where I didn’t know what to do anymore. We’d never gotten this far… yeah, me and my girlfriend of 5 & a half combined years together have never had sex. Ever. I wasn’t a virgin, I’d done it with my previous girlfriend Lucinda, but it was different with Dani. It always was. With her, everything felt like the first time, and as her lips left mine I felt it was finally time.

“Dani,” I whispered, “do you think it’s time?”

She looked into my eyes, knowing fully what I meant. “We agreed it had to be special, all that time ago. And I think, my fiancée, you have too much clothes on right now.”

“Does that mean…” I trailed off, imagining what would come next.

“Yes,” she said, “I think it’s time.”

I smirked, taking ahold of her hand, leading her over to the bed. “I want you so bad,” I whispered.

“Take me now,” she replied, and so I did.

I was breathless, and…I was right. Nothing could have prepared me for what it would be like with her. With my future wife.

“Adelaide,” she whispered, arm still laying around my side, “I’m so lucky you’re going to be my wife.”

I smiled. “No, I’m the lucky one.”

“We both are. We’re lucky to have found each other.”

“I one-hundred percent agree. I love you, Dani.”

“I love you too, Adelaide.”

Not long after I came home, Lexie came to find me.

“Anything interesting happen? Was Granite Falls pretty?” she asked almost instantly.

I smiled. “Dani and I, well, we’re engaged.” I waited for her reaction.

“What?!” Lexie exclaimed, “That’s amazing!”

I just smiled as she kept on talking. “You guys are so great for each other! I’m really excited for you, Adelaide. When’s the wedding?”

“We just got engaged! Dani and I haven’t talked about it yet!” I grinned. “But you’re definitely invited.”

“I can’t wait,” she smiled, “my sister’s getting married!”

I am. I’m actually getting married.

First comes love

Then comes marriage

Then comes the baby in the baby carriage

The rhyme I’d heard my classmates singing in second grade suddenly came back to me. It’s all really happening. I’m going to have a gorgeous wife, and we’re going to raise a family together. A baby. I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet, but in some ways, I am. And because of that 10% of me that was ready, I looked up IVF (in vitro fertilization), not for the first time. There were success stories blended with those of couples on their sixth round. But the thing all these stories had in common were that it wasn’t easy. Even if it took on the first round, there was so much involved to get there. Yes, Dani and I were getting married, but it wasn’t going to be that easy to get pregnant. Because, biologically, we can’t. We can ‘woohoo’ as many times as we want, but there was zero percent chance her or I would get pregnant. It just doesn’t work that way. So to have a biological daughter for the legacy, I’d have to go through fertility treatments. And maybe that is what I’m not ready for.

A/N: Yes, Dani made her ‘new’ middle name Evelyn after her niece. Anyway, the new schedule will be Wednesday and Saturday (or Sunday, we’ll see!) Yay, a schedule 😄
