Chapter 2.43: Choices: Part 2

I didn’t press Kiara. She was a grown woman now, she could make her own choices, and yet, I had to too. I still had to decide if we should move. It was a big decision.

What if Addie and Lexie didn’t want to move? Mason was too young to understand anything… but my daughters… Lexie was going to elementary school now. But as I looked around, I saw more of what my mom had mentioned. This wasn’t how I wanted my kids to grow up, but could I really do it? Kiara really wanted me to for some reason, but… could I really?

“Hey, Selena? Can I talk to you?”

“Sure. Kiara, what is it?” I’d figured that she would tell me at her own time.

She sat down, and I sensed her nervousness. “Um… that’s the thing. I’m pregnant.”

Oh. My. Watcher. “Wait, what?!”

“Yeah.”

“Wow. You have a lot to think about.”

“I do.” She sighed in relief. “Thank you for not yelling at me.”

“That wouldn’t help anything. I’ll get us some food.” As I left, Kiara groaned. I turned back to her.

“There’s a lot of that in your future.” I said, remembering my pregnancies.

“It’s true. I’m just going to go to bed. Thanks.”

I looked back to my daughters, Addie and Lexie, sitting on the sofa. They’d just came in. So young and innocent, unaware of what the real world held.

“Hey, guys? Can I ask you something?”

“Sure.” Addie said.

“See, I’ve been thinking of moving-to Brindleton Bay.” I started. “My mom, your grandmother, built a house for us there. She thought it would be better for us to live there… and so do I.” That last part just slipped out of my mouth…but it was out there, and it was true. But it wasn’t just my thoughts that counted.

“That’s cool!” Lexie exclaimed.

I stared at my daughter. “Really?”

“Yeah,” Addie added. “And I bet the house would be cool too.”

“So it would be ok?”

“Yeah! Didn’t you say it was better anyway?” Adelaide exclaimed, smiling.

Addie was a smart girl. Almost too smart. “I’ll think about it, ok?”
